Calvins Puzzle Mirror Double Cube 3x3 (golden + silver)

In the Calvins Puzzle Mirror Double Cube, two mirror cubes are combined into one puzzle. It runs on a 3x3 mechanism, but the pieces have different sizes, so once scrambled, the cube loses its cube shape. The body is black, and the stickers come in two colors: gold and silver. As with any mirror cube, you solve it by the shape and height of the pieces, not by colors.

How it differs from a regular Mirror Cube

With a classic 3x3 Mirror Cube, you just need to recognize the thickness of the sides well, and solving relies on familiar 3x3 methods. The Double version is harder because one shape contains two mirror patterns. There are more pieces of similar size, and they are easier to mix up. On top of that, after just a few moves the shape becomes very irregular and hard to read. If you can already solve a regular mirror cube without thinking, this one will give you a noticeably tougher challenge, although it still uses the same moves as a 3x3.

Turning

This is a shape mod puzzle, not a speedcubing cube. It has no magnets or tension adjustment system, so it is hard to compare with modern 3x3 cubes in terms of TPS or corner cutting. With such an irregular shape, it is better to turn calmly and align the layers carefully before the next move. This makes it easier to avoid lockups.

Who is it for?

For those who can already solve a 3x3 cube and have mastered the regular Mirror Cube, and now want something more challenging from the same family. The gold and silver cube also looks great on a shelf, so it is a good choice for collectors of shape-shifting puzzles. As a first cube, or for someone still learning the 3x3, it is probably too big a step. A standard Mirror Cube is a better place to start.
