Calvins Puzzle Mirror Double Cube is two 3x3 mirror cubes joined by a shared edge. It has a black body and silver stickers. You solve it purely by the shape of the pieces, so it's a great fit for people who have already mastered a regular Mirror Cube and for shape mod collectors.
Calvins Puzzle Mirror Double Cube is two 3x3 mirror cubes permanently joined along a shared edge. The result is a single puzzle that loses its shape when scrambled, and you have to rebuild it. The body is black and every face is covered with silver stickers. Colors give you no hints here, so solving depends entirely on the shape of the pieces.
In a regular Mirror Cube, every piece has different dimensions. When scrambled, the cube changes shape, and you solve it by matching pieces according to their thickness and height. In this version, you do that on two connected cubes at the same time. When you want to solve one part, you have to keep track of what happens to the other. This makes it much harder to tell where a given piece should go, and familiar 3x3 algorithms don't transfer to this puzzle as easily as they do with a single Mirror.
Silver stickers are the classic look of a mirror cube, since the whole puzzle is a single color. Calvins Puzzle also sells this model with gold and silver stickers combined. Choosing a version is mainly a matter of looks. With a single color, reading the shapes can be a little harder, because nothing distinguishes the individual parts from each other.
This is a shape mod for people who can already solve a 3x3 and ideally have a regular Mirror Cube under their belt. It makes the most sense for collectors of unusual puzzles and cubers who want to take on something beyond standard cubes. It is not suitable for speedcubing. What matters here is understanding how the puzzle works, not TPS or corner cutting. For a child's first cube, it's better to choose a classic 3x3, and possibly a single Mirror later on.
