Calvins Puzzle Void Multi-Star Wheel Cube is a corner-turning shape mod puzzle. It has no layers like a 3x3. You make moves by turning a corner, and each face also has a wheel that rotates freely. In this Void version the centre of each face is open, so you can see the inner pieces through it, and they need to be solved too. This one has a black body.

How solving works

The standard Multi-Star Wheel Cube requires two things. You have to rotate the wheels on the faces and move pieces between them with corner turns. The Void version adds a third stage. In the opening at the centre of each face there are 4 extra pieces connected to the corners. They move with every corner turn, so you can't solve them independently of the rest of the puzzle.

According to users, the inner part behaves like a Dino Cube. Many people solve it last, once the rest is done. If you know a Dino Cube method, you'll find it easier to figure out this stage. Buyers agree that it's a challenging task, especially in the final phase.

How it turns

This is a collector's puzzle, not a speedcubing cube. It isn't magnetic, has no tension adjustment, and TPS doesn't matter here. Opinions on the turning vary. Some say the turns are light even without lube. Others note that straight out of the box the mechanism is a bit stiff, especially when rotating the wheels. Some breaking in and, if needed, a little lube usually help.

Who is it for?

For people who already have a few unusual puzzles behind them and are looking for something more than yet another 3x3 mod. If you'd prefer a gentler introduction to this mechanism, choose the regular Multi-Star Wheel Cube without the openings. It has the same idea of wheels and corner turns, but without the inner stage. The Void isn't suitable as a first puzzle for a beginner or as a gift for a child who is just learning to solve a cube.
