Cubetwist Two Bar 3x3x3 is a bandaged cube: a 3x3 cube in which some of the pieces are permanently joined together. In this model, the joined pieces form two bars, which give the puzzle its name. The cube looks like a regular 3x3, but some moves are blocked. A move that always works on a normal cube is only possible here when the layers are in a specific position.

What makes it challenging

On a regular 3x3, you can turn any face at any time. On the Two Bar, the joined blocks span several layers, so you first have to position the cube so that a given layer can turn at all. That's why the standard 3x3 solving method doesn't work here directly. Popular algorithms often require moves that are blocked at that moment.

In practice, solving it means finding short sequences that change the position of a few pieces without breaking up the joined blocks. People who have solved the Two Bar often start with the edges and leave the corners for last. Among bandaged cube fans, the Two Bar is considered a puzzle that an experienced cuber can usually solve on their own, without a ready-made guide.

For anyone who solves the classic 3x3 with ease and wants something where memorizing algorithms isn't enough. It's a good first step into the world of bandaged cubes and puzzles that require independent thinking. This is not a speedcubing cube, nor a cube for learning to solve from scratch. If you're just getting to know the 3x3, start with a regular magnetic cube and come back to the Two Bar later.
