DaYan Megaminx Pro M is the successor to the very popular DaYan Megaminx V2 M. The biggest change is the Ball-Core, meaning magnets between the corners and the core. Until now, this was rarely found in megaminxes. This magnetic megaminx is standard-sized and comes in a stickerless bright version with vivid plastic colors.

What Ball-Core does in a megaminx

In a 3x3, strong magnets between the pieces are usually enough. A megaminx, however, has 12 faces and many more places where a layer can slightly misalign. The magnets in the core pull the corners towards the center. This makes the puzzle more stable, and the layers snap into place on their own within about 15 degrees (auto-alignment). In practice, you spend less time fixing faces that aren't fully turned, and you get fewer lockups when moving from F2L to the last layer.

How it turns

Users describe the turning as smooth and relatively quiet, and the feel as light. The light feel also comes from the small size, which DaYan kept from the V2. The manufacturer specifies corner cutting of 45 degrees and reverse corner cutting of 25 degrees. The piece surfaces have dimples that improve grip. The anti-stick design reduces pieces catching on each other. Some people do find the surface rather slippery, especially those with smaller hands.

Adjustment

Tension can be set to 5 levels without any tools. There is no magnet strength adjustment or compression adjustment. If you want to fine-tune your setup more extensively, consider the newer Pro+ series. For most people, five tension levels are enough to set the puzzle looser for speed or tighter for control.

Who is it for?

The Pro M is a good choice if you are starting to solve the megaminx regularly and want a stable puzzle that helps keep the layers aligned on its own. It also works well if you are switching from the V2 M and want to keep a similar character. If you have large hands, the standard size may feel small. For you, DaYan has made the larger Pro LM version.
