DaYan Megaminx Pro ML

DaYan Megaminx Pro ML

DaYan Megaminx Pro ML is a magnetic megaminx with Ball-Core in an enlarged version. The "L" in the name stands for Large, not MagLev, because the puzzle runs on regular springs. The face edge is 32 mm instead of 30.38 mm on the standard Megaminx Pro. The mechanism is the same; only the size is different. The larger body works better for people with bigger hands and for anyone who finds the standard Pro simply too small.

How it turns

Users describe it as a smooth and relatively quiet megaminx. It is fairly fast right out of the box and usually turns even better once you adjust the tension and lube it. The magnets are moderately strong, and the magnets between the corners and the core help align the layers, so the puzzle doesn't feel loose. Corner cutting reaches about 45° and reverse corner cutting about 25°. On the downside, corner twists occasionally occur. Some users also mention that the tension system falls apart when you take the puzzle apart, although it is easy to put back together.

Ball-Core and adjustment

• Ball-Core, i.e. magnets between the corners and the core. They give about 15° of auto-alignment and noticeably stabilize the faces during fast turning.
• 5 tension levels that you can set without tools.
• Pieces designed not to stick together while turning (anti-stick), and dimples on the outer surface that improve grip.
• Black replacement pieces included. You can use them to replace one of the faces and adjust the colour scheme, e.g. swap grey for black and beige for grey.

Pro ML, Pro or Pro+?

Between the Pro and the Pro ML, size is what matters most. If you have smaller hands or like light, agile megaminxes, you may prefer the standard version. The newer Megaminx Pro+ has numbered tension and compression adjustment, adjustable core magnet strength and a MagLev option. These features are for those who want to fine-tune the puzzle exactly to their liking. The Pro ML has simpler adjustment and is a good choice if you mainly want a larger megaminx with a magnetic core.

Who is it for?

For cubers who are starting to train megaminx more seriously or switching from models without Ball-Core, e.g. the DaYan Megaminx V2 M. It also works well as a first magnetic megaminx for someone who already knows 3x3 and doesn't want to buy a puzzle that will only last one season.
