For years, DaYan was mainly known for its 2x2 and 3x3 cubes. The DaYan NeZha 5M 5x5 is the brand's first magnetic 5x5 cube, released in 2022. What sets it apart most is its weight: 113 g at a size of 62 mm, noticeably less than most 5x5 cubes. This version has Medium magnets of moderate strength. A version with stronger magnets (Strong) is also available.

How it turns

You can really feel the low weight in your hands. Turning is light, the cube doesn't tire your hands during longer sessions and doesn't need much force to turn. Reviewers describe it as fast, quiet and fairly smooth. According to tests, the magnets on the inner layers are slightly stronger than on the outer ones.

Corner cutting is decent, but it doesn't forgive everything. Reverse corner cutting is weaker, and less accurate turns can cause catching. Some users also report lockups when overshooting. This is a cube for people with fairly precise turning. After taking it apart and lubing it, many cubers get used to its character.

Tension adjustment

The NeZha has no compression adjustment or MagLev system. Under the six center caps there are classic springs and screws, so you set the tension with a screwdriver. The set includes extra, stiffer springs that come in handy if the cube feels too loose or flexible. Factory settings can vary: some people get a loose cube, others a fairly tight one. It's worth checking and adjusting the tension right away.

Medium or Strong?

Both versions share the same mechanism and differ only in magnet strength. Medium gives lighter, smoother turning. Strong has a more noticeable "click" of the layers and aligns them better, but needs a bit more force.

Who is it for?

For cubers who like light, fast 5x5 cubes and don't want to wear themselves out during long solves. It works well for someone moving up from 3x3 and 4x4 to their first magnetic 5x5 cube. It also fits as a second, lighter cube alongside a heavier flagship. If you value strong reverse corner cutting and high tolerance for inaccurate turns, you may feel more comfortable with a different model.
