DianSheng 4-Corner-Only V2 is the second version of a puzzle also known as the 4-Corner Hexagonal Dipyramid. Inside, it runs on a standard 3x3 mechanism, so all layers turn just like on a classic cube. Only the shape is different. The Transparent version has a clear body. This shape mod is a great pick if you can already solve a 3x3 cube and want something that will give you a hard time despite the familiar mechanics.

What makes it tricky

A 3x3 method is all you need to solve it, but the shape itself makes it hard to stay oriented. The four corners are identical, so you can't tell them apart. Owners of the first version mention that this leads to an unusual situation near the end of the solve: the puzzle looks almost solved, yet something still doesn't add up. It takes a moment to see where the problem is. For many people, that's exactly what makes this model so interesting.

What's new in V2

• Redesigned pieces. The manufacturer changed the shape of the pieces so they catch on each other less often. The first version was criticized for exactly this - catching during turns.
• Stickerless. V2 has no vinyl stickers. The Transparent version is stickerless.
• New packaging. The second version comes in a decorative box that you can also use for storage.

How it turns

This is not a speedcubing cube. It has no magnets and no tension adjustment. According to reviews of the first version, corner cutting is practically non-existent, so you need to align the layers precisely and turn calmly. Fast turning ends in lockups. This behavior is typical of shape mods of this kind and won't bother you if you solve for fun.

Who is it for?

For anyone who already knows the 3x3 and wants a new challenge, and for collectors of DianSheng puzzles. It's not suitable as a first cube, because without knowing a 3x3 method it will be hard to solve. As a next puzzle for a child who can already handle a 3x3, it works well.
