A magnetic 2x2 from the DianSheng Galaxy Cluster series with a rotating wheel on each face, divided into eight equal segments (8EQ). You need to solve both the corners and all the wheel segments, which makes it a much tougher challenge than a regular 2x2. Available in Stickerless Bright and Transparent variants.

DianSheng Galaxy Cluster 8EQ M is a magnetic 2x2 from the Galaxy Cluster series, but it solves completely differently from a regular 2x2. Each of the six faces has a rotating wheel divided into eight equal segments. That is where the 8EQ name comes from, and the letter M stands for the magnetic version. The cube is only solved when both the corners and all the wheel segments are back in place.
Underneath the wheels there is a classic 2x2 mechanism, while the wheels themselves turn independently on their own axes. Every layer turn scrambles not only the corners but also the wheel segments on the adjacent faces. That is why knowing 2x2 methods is not enough. You need to understand how the two systems affect each other and come up with your own sequences. It is a puzzle to figure out, not a cube for timed solves.
The Magic Wheel comes in two versions. In the 4EQ, each wheel has four segments, so it is easier to get started. The 8EQ has twice as many segments, the scramble goes deeper and solving is harder. If you have never tried this mechanism before, you may want to start with the 4EQ. If you already know shape mods and unusual 2x2 puzzles, you can go straight for the 8EQ. With both versions, you can swap some of the pieces and create your own bandaged-style variant.
The magnets help the layers snap into place and keep them aligned. In a puzzle where it is easy to leave something misaligned, this makes solving easier. The cube is available in two variants: Stickerless Bright with coloured plastic and Transparent with see-through pieces.
For those who can already solve the 2x2 and 3x3 and want something that cannot be solved from memory. The Galaxy Cluster 8EQ M also makes a great unusual addition to a puzzle collection. For a child's first cube, a regular magnetic 2x2 is a better choice.
