The letters MS in the name come from the MSCube brand, which DianSheng worked with on this model. DianSheng MS3R 3x3 Magnetic is a magnetic speed cube that was the manufacturer's flagship 3x3 at the end of 2023. The biggest difference compared with typical cubes in this class is the manually adjustable core with two settings. This version has no UV coating, has matte plastic and comes in a stickerless variant.

How the MS3R turns

The MS3R measures 55.5 mm, so it is slightly smaller than a standard 3x3, and weighs approx. 69.5 g. Users describe it as smooth, quiet and fairly flexible. Corner cutting is forgiving, and catching during fast turning is rare. The magnets are usually described as medium to strong.

This flexibility comes at a price, though. Some people find the cube very loose even on tighter settings and report corner twists and popping center caps. A few reviews also say the MS3R needs a proper setup and lubing out of the box. Once you tune it, it performs well. Straight out of the box, however, it may disappoint.

Core and tension adjustment

This version has no UV coating. The UV version has the same mechanism but a glossy surface that gives a better grip. This version comes in two internal colors: Black (black internals) and Primary (colored internals).

Who is it for?

For cubers who like light, flexible cubes and want to see how the cube's character changes when you switch the core setting. It is also a good fit for anyone who is not afraid of doing their own setup and lubing. If you want a very stable cube that is ready to solve right out of the box, or you are buying a first cube for a child, a simpler magnetic model is a better choice.
