DianSheng Solar 5x5 M Plus is a magnetic 5x5 cube from the Solar series. This series is DianSheng's line of speed cubes; until now, the company has been known mainly for unusual puzzles. The cube is relatively small for a 5x5 (approx. 61.5 mm) and weighs approx. 135 g. It has noticeable magnets and is one of the more affordable cubes. It's a good choice for your first serious 5x5 and for practice if you don't need a flagship model.

How it turns

Distributors describe the Solar S5M Plus as a cube with clearly noticeable magnets. The magnets help the layers settle into place, so when you solve the centers and pair the edges, misaligned layers and lockups are less likely. On a 5x5, that helps a lot. At 61.5 mm, it sits at roughly the lower end of typical 5x5 cube sizes, so smaller hands and anyone who likes a compact cube should feel comfortable with it.

It's still a budget model. Compared with top 5x5 cubes from MoYu, GAN or QiYi, it mainly lacks tension adjustment options and a refined mechanism. With budget 5x5 cubes, the feel usually improves noticeably once you choose the right lube. This cube is unlikely to be an exception.

The cube is available in two color variants: Black and Primary. The mechanism is the same in both, so you simply choose the look you like better.

How is it different from the older DianSheng 5x5 M?

DianSheng previously sold a cube with a similar name: the DianSheng 5x5 M, also called the Solar System 5x5 M. When choosing, check the exact name. The Solar 5x5 M Plus belongs to the newer Solar line, and distributors list a noticeably lower weight for the older model (approx. 118 g). These cubes are easy to confuse by name alone, but they are not the same model.

Who is it for?

For anyone who can already solve a 3x3 and wants to start with 5x5, or who needs an inexpensive magnetic cube to learn reduction and parity. It also works well as a backup cube or as a gift for a child who already solves cubes. Speedcubers competing for 5x5 results will find more options in more expensive models with tension adjustment.
