DianSheng Twisted 2x2

DianSheng Twisted 2x2 is a shape mod based on a regular 2x2 cube. The mechanism is the same as in a classic 2x2, but the pieces have a different shape. After just a few moves the cube stops being a cube and starts to look "twisted", and every turn changes its shape. The whole puzzle is a single colour, so you solve it by shape alone.

How it differs from a regular 2x2 cube

If you can solve a 2x2, you already know the algorithms you need for the Twisted. The difficulty lies elsewhere. The pieces differ in shape, which makes them harder to recognise, and once scrambled, the irregular shape easily throws off your sense of orientation. That's why your first solves will usually take longer than on a classic cube, even if you solve the 2x2 quickly. If you're a complete beginner, it's better to master a regular 2x2 first and only then move on to a variant like this.

Mechanism and turning

Inside there is a speedcube-type mechanism, not a simple toy mechanism. Shops that sell this model describe the turning as smooth and predictable, even when the cube is heavily deformed. One source mentions concave contact surfaces inside the pieces, which are meant to reduce friction and help the lube last longer. We weren't able to confirm whether the Twisted 2x2 has magnets, so we treat it as a non-magnetic cube. This isn't a model for breaking speed records. It's a puzzle to solve for fun.

Colour versions

Four colours are available in our shop: Blue, Pink, Yellow and Purple. They all have the same shape and mechanism, so you can simply pick the colour you like best.

For anyone who has already mastered a regular 2x2 and is looking for something other than yet another, faster cube of the same type.
