Fangshi Crucis 3×3×3 + Skewb No.2

Fangshi Crucis 3×3×3 + Skewb No.2 (also known as LimCube Crucis V2) is a hybrid puzzle from the f/s limCube line. It combines two mechanisms in one cube: it turns by layers like a regular 3×3, and it can also turn along the diagonals like a Skewb. When solved, it looks like an ordinary cube, but solving it works differently, because the pieces get mixed up by both move systems.

What is the No.2 version?

The Crucis series comes in several versions that differ in the type of corners. A type A corner is standard and doesn't block 3×3 moves. A type B corner is bandaged: an outer layer containing such a corner turns together with the middle layer. No.2 has 7 type A corners and 1 type B corner. Skewb moves work without restrictions, while the one bandaged corner limits some of the 3×3 moves and forces unusual piece pairing.

For comparison: No.1 has no bandaged corners, so both mechanisms work freely. No.3 has two type B corners and No.4 has four, so 3×3 moves are restricted even more. No.2 is the first step towards the bandaged versions: the restriction is already there, but you still have plenty of freedom of movement.

Who is it for?

This puzzle is for those who know 3×3 and Skewb solving methods well and now want to figure out how the two mechanisms affect each other. Algorithms from both puzzles come in handy, but they aren't enough on their own, so you'll have to put in some work. It's not suitable as a first cube. It's more of a collector's item or a challenge than a speedsolving tool. The cube has no magnets, and the mechanism feels different from a modern 3×3 speed cube.
