FangShi Morpho Deidamia is a shape-shifting puzzle that combines Skewb turns with turns around edge axes, like on the Helicopter Cube, and allows jumbling. It's the basic version of the Morpho series, with no magnets and fairly demanding to turn, made for experienced collectors of unusual puzzles.
FangShi Morpho Deidamia is a shape-shifting puzzle from the Morpho series by LimCube (FangShi). On the outside it looks like an ordinary cube, but the mechanism combines two types of moves: the corner turns known from the Skewb and turns around the edge axes, like on the Helicopter Cube or Clover Cube. The most interesting part is that the puzzle allows jumbling. Partial turns change its shape and mix the pieces in ways that are impossible on a classic Skewb.
In cube shape, the Deidamia turns fairly reliably. Problems start once you get into jumbling. If one edge axis is turned or has shifted pieces in it, the axis on the opposite side locks up. A misaligned edge can also block the edges on both sides. That's why you need to turn calmly and make sure the layers return to their place. Don't force it, as this leads to popping or even damage to the internal pieces. Don't expect the feel of a speedcube here. The turning is more mechanical, catching appears with imprecise moves, and the puzzle has no magnets.
This is one of the more difficult puzzles in our range. Once the puzzle changes shape, simply restoring the cube shape is a challenge in itself. After that you still have to put the pieces in the right places, and the locking axes force longer sequences and more setup moves. Not every move that would work on a regular Helicopter Cube is possible here at any given moment.
The Deidamia is the basic version of the Morpho, built on the Skewb. Each edge here is a single two-coloured piece. In the Morpho Helena, the edges are split and movable. The Marinita adds 2x2x2 cuts to the Skewb base, and the Helenor Octavia is based on a 2x2x2 cube. The Deidamia is the best place to start exploring the whole series.
For experienced collectors and anyone who enjoys unusual puzzles and has already mastered the Skewb and the Helicopter Cube. This puzzle is not allowed in official competitions and is not suitable as a first puzzle or as a gift for a beginner.
