FangShi Morpho Helenor Octavia

FangShi Morpho Helenor Octavia is a shape mod from the Morpho series, released under the LimCube brand in 2020. Mechanically, it combines two puzzles: a 2x2 cube and a Curvy Copter, which is a helicopter cube with extra cuts. You can turn both the faces and the edges, and the whole puzzle supports jumbling. On top of that, some pieces have "windows" that show the internal parts. These need to be solved too, which makes the puzzle even harder. It's one of the more difficult puzzles in our range.

How this puzzle works

Besides regular 2x2 moves, the cube turns around its edge axes, just like a helicopter cube. Extra cuts in the pieces let you turn the edges by 45° and still make 2x2 moves afterwards. Once you start jumbling, the cube loses its cubic shape and the pieces swap places in ways you won't find in classic cubes. The other models in the Morpho series, such as Deidamia, are based on the skewb. Helenor Octavia is the only one with 2x2 moves.

Turning and handling

This is not a cube for speedsolving. The pieces have complex, sharp shapes and can catch on each other during 2x2 moves, so catching and lockups are common. You need to turn it calmly and precisely, and it takes some time to get used to the mechanism. Some pieces are hollow inside, so according to users, lubing doesn't change much. A mechanism like this can't be set up the way speedcubes can. It's best to expect from the start that this is a puzzle you work out slowly, not one you solve against the clock.

Who is it for?

For collectors and experienced cubers who already know shape mods, jumbling puzzles and Curvy Copter-type puzzles, and are looking for something truly challenging. It's not a good choice as your first unusual puzzle or as a gift for a child who is just starting out.
