FanXin 19 cm 3x3

FanXin 19 cm 3x3 is a giant 3x3 cube with an edge length of about 19 cm. That's roughly three and a half times the size of a standard speedcube (approx. 56 mm). It has a fully working mechanism and solves exactly like a regular 3x3, so all the same algorithms work without any changes. The cube comes in the stickerless bright version: the colors are in the plastic itself, so there are no stickers that could peel off or wear out.

What solving a giant 3x3 cube is like

At this size, solving feels completely different. You hold the cube with both hands and turn each layer with your whole palm, so fingertricks and high TPS are out of the question. FanXin bases the mechanism on solutions known from regular speedcubes and promises smooth turning, good corner cutting and protection against popping. Still, keep in mind that the turns are heavy, because each layer weighs quite a lot. Some users say the cube turns with resistance. For such a large puzzle, that's normal.

The cube has no magnets, so the layers don't snap into alignment on their own. You need to line them up by hand before the next move, otherwise lockups happen easily.

What it's good for

• Decoration. On a shelf, a desk or in a display case with your collection, it's easy to see from a distance.
• Demonstrations and classes. In a classroom or a cubing club, the whole group can see which move is being made. This makes it easier to explain notation and the first steps of the layer-by-layer method.

Who is it for?

This cube is for collectors, teachers, people running classes and anyone who wants a big, working 3x3 cube on display. It's not suitable for timed practice or for learning to solve fast. For a child who is just starting out, it's better to buy a regular 3x3 magnetic cube for everyday use, and the giant model can be an extra. Because of its weight, younger children should play with it under adult supervision.
