FanXin Orange Cube 3x3

FanXin Orange Cube is a shape mod puzzle. Inside, it works like a regular 3x3 cube, but when solved, it is shaped like an orange. It is part of FanXin's fruit puzzle series, which also includes a peach, a pear and an apple. The pieces are all the same color. Each one has a different shape, so once you scramble it, the puzzle no longer looks like a fruit. To solve it, you need to rebuild the smooth, round orange.

How to solve it

The moves and algorithms are the same as on a classic 3x3 cube. If you know the beginner's (layer-by-layer) method or CFOP, you can solve the Orange Cube without learning any new sequences. The challenge is recognizing the pieces. Instead of colors, you look at the curves and heights of the pieces, much like on a Mirror Cube. At first, it is easy to mix up similar-looking pieces or misjudge their orientation, so this puzzle tests your spatial imagination more than a regular 3x3.

This is not a speed cube. It has no magnets, and the mechanism is not designed for high TPS or corner cutting. You can change the tension with the adjustment screws to make the cube turn looser or feel tighter.

Who is it for?

It is for anyone who can already solve a 3x3 and wants to try something other than yet another speedcubing cube. The Orange Cube also looks great on the shelf in a shape mod collection and makes a nice small gift. If your child cannot solve a regular cube yet, it is better to start with a classic 3x3. Learning without colors is harder and can be frustrating. This cube is not allowed in official WCA competitions.
