The Galaxy Hexastar Prism is a large (approx. 13 cm, approx. 650 g) hexagonal prism from Galaxy Puzzle, designed by Mr. Guo. It has deep cuts, and users describe its mechanism as jumbling, so classic algorithms won't be enough here. A puzzle for collectors and experienced cubers, black body version.
A large hexagonal prism with deep cuts and a star-shaped arrangement of pieces. The Galaxy Hexastar Prism from Galaxy Puzzle was designed by a creator credited as Mr. Guo. It's a puzzle for people who have already moved past classic cubes and are looking for something that calls for thinking rather than fast turning.
The cuts are deep, so every move rearranges a lot of pieces at once. Early users describe the Hexastar Prism as a jumbling puzzle. In practice, this means some moves are only possible when the layers are in the right position, and the pieces get mixed irregularly. Because of this, algorithms you know from the 3x3 don't carry over directly, and building cycles or commutators can be tricky. You'll have to work out the solution on your own. This isn't a puzzle for speedsolving or chasing times. It's one to figure out calmly, over many hours.
The Hexastar Prism measures about 13 cm and weighs approx. 650 g, several times more than a typical 3x3 cube. It looks great on a desk or shelf, but you'll need both hands to turn it. The body is made of ABS plastic. The mechanism is based on rails that the pieces slide along. According to one owner's review, the puzzle may come apart if you turn it too forcefully at first. So it's best to turn it gently and make sure the layers are aligned before you start the next move.
The Galaxy Hexastar Prism is a great fit for collectors of unusual puzzles and for cubers who have already solved shape mods, shapeshifting puzzles or other jumbling designs. We don't recommend it as a child's first puzzle or for someone who is just learning the 3x3. For an experienced cuber who already has the typical shapes in their collection, it can make an interesting gift.
