GAN 14 MagLev Pro UV 3x3

An improved version of the flagship GAN 14 MagLev. The GAN 14 MagLev Pro UV has the same pieces, the same feel and the same adjustment system as the regular "14". On top of that, it adds new anti-pop protection and locked center caps. This version has a glossy UV coating that gives good grip and resists scratches better. The color scheme is stickerless bright.

What's new in the Pro version

The standard GAN 14 MagLev got a fair amount of criticism for popping, especially on looser settings. In the Pro version, GAN added the Pro Level Anti-Pop system and locked the centers more firmly. You can no longer remove the caps with your fingers, only with the tool included in the set. The mechanism, magnets and adjustment range are unchanged. If you know the regular 14, you'll get the same cube character, but with less risk of it falling apart mid-solve.

How it turns

In the MagLev system, repelling magnets replace springs, so turning is light with little friction. It also has Enhanced Core Positioning 4.0, meaning magnets in the core work together with magnets in the pieces. As a result, the cube noticeably finishes under-turned layers on its own. Users mainly praise its speed and corner cutting. Some notice that on factory settings the cube can be very fast and less controllable, and a few reviews mention catching. Choosing the right setup or lubing helps. At 71 g, the cube is heavier than the newer GAN 15 and GAN 16 models, so it feels fuller and more solid in the hand.

Adjustment

• Numeric adjustment system: the settings are marked with numbers, so it's easy to return to a setup you know works.
• Adjustable magnet strength in the pieces. The manufacturer states 12 settings.
• GES v3 structure with 6 tension levels and 6 center travel levels.
• According to the manufacturer, this gives a total of 1296 combinations.

With this much adjustment, you can set the cube up for maximum speed or for calmer, more controlled turning. Finding your own setup does take some time and testing, though.

Who is it for?

For cubers who like fast MagLev cubes with strong auto-alignment and want plenty of control over the settings. If you're choosing between the regular GAN 14 and the Pro version, the difference comes down mainly to anti-pop and the locked centers. For complete beginners or children, there will be too much adjustment here. A simpler magnetic cube is enough to start with.
