GAN 356 i Carry 2 Frosted is a magnetic 3x3 smart cube that connects to the CubeStation app on your phone via Bluetooth. The cube sends every move to the app, so the app times your solves automatically, saves them and shows you how each solve went. You don't need to charge the cube. It runs on a replaceable button cell battery that, according to the manufacturer, lasts about 700 hours. This version has a matte (frosted) surface and stickerless bright colors.

What a smart cube gives you

In CubeStation you can play online against other cubers, follow beginner tutorials and use training modes. You turn the cube on by shaking it, with no button and no cable. The battery is the main change compared with older models. The first i Carry lasted about 280 hours and the i Carry S about 330, so with the i Carry 2 you replace the battery much less often. To replace it, you need to partially disassemble the cube and use a small Phillips screwdriver.

Opinions about the app are mixed. Users report that the interface is only available in English and Chinese, and some messages appear only in Chinese.

How it turns

According to GAN, the core with the electronics is 31.3% smaller than before, and ball bearings are meant to reduce resistance and layer catching. The magnets give a clear "click" when the layers align. Many users praise the smooth turning straight out of the box and the good resistance to popping. Reviewers also point out some drawbacks. The cube is fairly loud (clacky), and at very high TPS catching happens more often. Some users would also prefer slightly stronger magnets. At slow and medium speeds it turns without any issues.

Frosted or UV?

The i Carry 2 is available in two finishes. Frosted has matte plastic with medium grip. The UV version has a glossy coating that grips your fingers more firmly. The smart features and the battery are the same in both versions.

Who is it for?

For anyone learning to solve with an app, wanting to track their stats or play against others online. It's also a good choice for a child, as the tutorials in the app will help with the first solve. Advanced speedcubers can use it for training and solve analysis. As a main cube for fast solves, however, a flagship model without electronics will serve you better.
