This is the anniversary edition of the smart cube that GAN released to celebrate its 10th birthday. GAN 356 i Carry 2 UV 10th Anniversary is a magnetic 3x3 cube with Bluetooth. Its mechanism and electronics are the same as in the regular i Carry 2 UV. What sets it apart is the look: colorful, semi-transparent plastic with a UV coating, 10 Years series packaging and a cube pouch.

Smart features and battery

The cube connects to the CubeStation app. The app records your time, move count, TPS and solve fluency, and also offers tutorials, training and online timed solving against other people. You wake the cube up with a light shake. Instead of a rechargeable battery, it uses a CR2032 battery, which according to the manufacturer lasts about 700 hours. When it runs out, you replace it yourself, so you never need to charge the cube.

The i Carry 2 has no gyroscope. Moves are recorded correctly, but the cube model in the app does not rotate along with the cube in your hand.

How it turns

Inside there are 48 magnets and a reduced-size core, so the electronics get in the way of turning less. Many people say the i Carry 2 feels more like a regular speed cube in the hand than older smart cubes do. The cube is on the fast side and turns smoothly at a moderate pace. At very high TPS, catching happens more often, and some users point out a fairly clicky, louder sound. The magnet strength cannot be changed. Tension adjustment is done with the GES Pro+ system, but the range of settings is noticeably smaller than in flagship cubes.

Who is it for?

For people who want to track their progress in an app, and for beginners who will benefit from the tutorials in CubeStation. It's also a great gift idea, as the anniversary edition comes with nicer packaging and a pouch. Smart cubes are not allowed at official WCA competitions, so an advanced speedcuber will rather buy it as a second cube for training and solve analysis, not as a main.
