GAN 356 i Carry S 3x3 – smart Bluetooth cube

GAN 356 i Carry S is a magnetic 3x3 smart cube. It connects via Bluetooth to the GAN Cube Station app on your phone. The app tracks every move and, after each solve, shows your time, move count and TPS. The cube has no charger or rechargeable battery, because it runs on a replaceable button cell battery. This is a newer version of the original i Carry: according to GAN, the battery lasts for about 330 hours of solving instead of about 280.

What a smart cube gives you

Your time is measured automatically, with no timer or mat needed. Timing starts with your first move and stops when the cube is solved. The app includes an animated tutorial that teaches you your first solve step by step. You'll also find solve statistics, algorithm training and online battles with other people. This model has no gyroscope, so the cube on the screen doesn't rotate along with the one in your hand. It only shows the layer moves.

How it turns

Inside there are 48 magnets that help the layers snap into place. According to users of its predecessor, it turns fast, is quieter than typical budget cubes and has good corner cutting. The shape and mechanism are almost the same as in the regular i Carry, and the feel is very similar. Tension is adjusted with the Numerical system. Spare springs and nuts are included, so you can set up the cube more for speed or more for control. The plastic has a matte (frosted) finish.

Battery and differences between versions

Compared to the original i Carry, the electronics in the core have changed. The battery lasts longer, but to replace it you need to unscrew the core. This is less convenient, but it makes cleaning the inside easier. Newer models are also available, e.g. the i Carry 2. It offers longer battery life and the GES Pro+ tension system. The i Carry S remains a simpler and more affordable option with the basic smart features.

Who is it for?

For beginners and casual solvers who want solve statistics and in-app learning. It's also a great gift for a child who is just learning to solve the cube. Advanced speedcubers usually use it as a second cube for data-driven training. Smart cubes are not allowed at official WCA competitions, so for competitions you need a separate cube without electronics.
