GAN 356i v3 UV (also known as GAN356 i3) is a 3x3 smart cube. It connects to the CubeStation app via Bluetooth and sends every move to your phone in real time. According to the manufacturer, this successor to the GAN356 i2 was the first cube with adjustable magnet strength. This version has a glossy UV coating and a stickerless bright colour scheme.

What the electronics inside do

The cube has a Smart Core 3.0 module with a gyroscope. Thanks to it, the app registers layer turns and also shows how you rotate the whole cube in your hands, so the on-screen animation stays in sync with your solve. CubeStation saves your solves and lets you analyse them. It also has an algorithm learning mode (AI Academy) and online battles with other cubers. Users point out that during long sessions the cube's state in the app can drift slightly from the actual cube. If that happens, simply correct it in the app.

Magnet and tension adjustment

The cube uses the GMS v4 system, which offers 7 magnet strength levels and 9 tension settings, for a total of 63 combinations. You change the settings mechanically on the cube itself, without the app. According to reviewers, the differences are noticeable, but the adjustment range is narrower than in GAN's classic flagships without electronics.

How it turns

Reviews describe the i3 as a fast and fairly smooth cube with good corner cutting and few lockups. The magnets are rather subtle. If you like a strong "click", you can set a higher level, though some people find the cube gets too heavy to turn at that point. The electronics add some weight, so the i3 is not as light as regular 3x3 cubes. You can feel it during fast turning.

Who is it for?

For anyone who wants to time and analyse their solves, practise algorithms with a live preview in the app, or play online. It works well for intermediate cubers and for younger solvers who are motivated by the app. Competitions require a regular cube anyway, so a speedcuber looking for a sub-10 main usually goes for a classic flagship. The GAN i Carry series is cheaper but has no gyroscope.
