GAN 562 5x5x5 UV

For a long time, GAN had no 5x5 cube in its lineup. The GAN 562 5x5x5 UV is the brand's first model in this category. GAN has brought over features previously found only in its 2x2 and 3x3 cubes, above all magnets in the core. This version has a glossy UV coating and comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

In reviews and user feedback, the GAN 562 is described as a fast cube, but above all a stable and controllable one. The feel is rather smooth. The magnets are strong on the outer layers and weaker on the inner layers. As a result, the outer layers settle firmly during fast turning, while the inner layers don't put up much resistance when you turn them. Corner cutting on the outer layers is about 40°, and users also rate the reverse corner cutting highly. Some people feel the inner layers perform better than the outer layers, so how you rate the outer layers comes down to personal preference.

Design and magnets

• 96 magnets in the pieces and 16 magnets in the core. The core magnets help align the layers, which in a bigger cube means fewer lockups during block moves.
• Auto-alignment of about 45°. A slightly under-turned layer snaps into place on its own.
• Double-layer internal structure and deep center caps. These features are designed to reduce popping and keep the center caps from falling out.
• Widened outer layers that improve stability when turning the outer layers.
• Pieces with a honeycomb surface that helps the lube spread more evenly.
• Locked magnet capsules, so the magnets don't fall out even with heavy use.

UV or Frosted?

The GAN 562 is available in a UV version and a matte Frosted version. The mechanism is the same in both; they differ only in finish. The UV coating is glossy, grips your fingers better and is more scratch-resistant. The matte version has medium grip. If you like a secure hold during longer solving sessions, UV is usually the better choice.

Who is it for?

The GAN 562 5x5 cube is designed for speedcubers who want to practise 5x5 on flagship hardware and value stability and control more than maximum speed. It's also a good fit if you're moving up from a budget 5x5 to a higher-end design. If you're just getting started with bigger cubes, a cheaper magnetic 5x5 will be enough for learning.
