GAN Halo Smart Timer

A speedcubing timer from GAN in the Smart version, which means it has Bluetooth. The GAN Halo Smart Timer measures time to 0.001 s and calculates your average of five solves (Ao5) on its own. It stores up to 10,000 results, which you can later send to the GAN CubeStation app. It doesn't need button cell batteries because it has a built-in rechargeable battery charged via a USB cable. We offer it in blue (Blue).

How it works during practice

It works just like a classic timer. You place your hands on the pads, lift them to start, and touch the pads to stop the time. The buttons are locked for 2 seconds after stopping, so an accidental touch won't erase your result. Ao5 is calculated automatically, excluding the best and worst times, so you don't need to write anything down between solves.

The Halo is lower than the popular Stackmats. Some users say that after switching from a taller timer, it's easier to miss stopping the time at first.

Bluetooth and the CubeStation app

Once connected to CubeStation, your results go to a cloud history. In the app you can browse and analyze them and set up your own training sessions. This works with regular cubes and with GAN smart cubes. You can also use the timer without a phone: times saved offline are uploaded to the app later. According to user reviews, the timer also connects via Bluetooth to csTimer in a browser, but not everyone manages to do it without problems.

Halo lighting

There are LED rings around the pads. You can choose from 10 colors, each with 3 flashing modes and 3 brightness levels, for a total of 90 effects. Some of them can be selected on the timer itself, while the full settings and custom effects are available in the app. Some modes flash, so people sensitive to flashing light should skip them.

Smart or Standard version?

GAN also makes the Halo Timer Standard. It looks the same and has the lighting, Ao5 and the lock after stopping, but it has no Bluetooth, doesn't connect to the app and remembers only 5 results. Its battery lasts about 32 hours, while the Smart version lasts about 42 hours. The Smart version is worth choosing if you want to collect statistics in CubeStation or have a GAN smart cube. If you only need to measure time and Ao5, the Standard version is enough.

Who is it for?

For someone who practices regularly and wants all their times in one place without copying them by hand. It's easy to use, so even a child who is just starting to time solves can handle it. GAN also makes the Halo Timer Mat with cut-outs that the timer fits into.
