GAN Halo Timer - Standard

GAN Halo Timer - Standard is the simpler version of the Halo Smart timer. The housing and core functions are the same, but this version has no Bluetooth, so you can't connect it to the GAN CubeStation app or to the cloud. You see your times on the display, and the timer keeps your last 5 solves in memory. In our shop, the timer is available in purple (Purple).

What this speedcubing timer can do

The display shows your time to 0.001 s. The timer calculates AO5 on its own: the average of your last five solves without the fastest and slowest result. You don't have to work anything out by hand or put the cube down after every session. The buttons are locked while timing. The lock stays on for about 2 seconds after the time stops, so it's hard to reset your result by accident when you put the cube down.

The Halo name comes from the backlight. The timer has 90 preset lighting effects: 10 colour sets, each with 3 flashing modes and 3 brightness levels. Custom effects are only available in the Smart version, through the app. The timer runs on a built-in battery charged via USB, so you don't need to buy batteries. According to distributors, one charge lasts about 32 hours of use. It also has a 2.5 mm output for connecting an external display.

One note from user reviews: the housing is fairly low. When you put the cube down quickly, your hands may miss the pads and the time won't stop. It usually only takes a moment to get used to it.

Standard or Smart?

Both versions time equally accurately, calculate AO5, have button lock and 90 lighting effects. The Smart version adds Bluetooth, CubeStation support, cloud sync, memory for up to 10,000 results and custom backlight settings. The Standard version makes sense if you record your results in separate software on your computer, or don't keep them at all, and you only need accurate timing and AO5 from your timer. It's also a great first real timer for a child who is starting to time their solves.
