GAN Megaminx V2 Maglev

This is the second generation of GAN's megaminx, replacing the first GAN Megaminx from 2019. The GAN Megaminx V2 Maglev uses the same solutions as the brand's flagship 3x3 cubes: MagLev instead of springs, a Ball-Core with magnets in the core, and numbered tension adjustment on all 12 centers. It is magnetic, stickerless and designed for speedsolving.

How it turns

Users and reviewers agree that the V2 Maglev is fast and smooth, yet stable and offers plenty of control. Auto-alignment plays a big part here. The magnets in the core finish a turn on their own when it stops roughly 15° short. This matters a lot on a megaminx, because with pentagonal faces even a slight under-turn easily leads to a lockup on the next move. The corners have recesses (concave design) that improve grip during fingertricks.

Some people note that corner cutting is average straight out of the box. It improves once you find the right settings and break the puzzle in. A few practical tips from reviews: the center caps are fairly hard to remove, and the numbers on the dials are small and hard to see. When lubing, less is better than more.

MagLev, Ball-Core and tension adjustment

• MagLev. Instead of springs, the centers use repelling magnets. There is less friction and no spring noise. With twelve centers, it also matters that magnets don't wear out, so the tension stays even on every face.
• Ball-Core. According to GAN, this is a ball-shaped core with the axis integrated into a single piece and 160 magnetic points. It is responsible for auto-alignment and stability during fast turning.
• 36 settings. The outer ring changes the tension (6 levels) and the inner ring changes the elasticity (6 levels). The settings are numbered, so it's easy to set all centers the same way. The dials aren't turned by hand but with a dedicated tool.

Black or Gray?

Both versions have the same mechanism and differ in the color of one face. Gray has the classic megaminx color scheme with a gray face, while in the Black version the gray face is replaced with a black one. More and more people who solve the megaminx competitively choose this scheme. The choice comes down to which colors you are used to.

Who is it for?

For those who solve the megaminx regularly or train for competitions and want MagLev, magnets in the core and full adjustment. It also works well as a first good megaminx after a budget model, once you know you enjoy this event. If you just want to find out whether the megaminx is for you, a simpler magnetic model is enough to start with.
