Hanoiminx Cube

A puzzle shaped like a truncated tetrahedron, designed by Vietnamese puzzle maker Dr. Mai Phu Son and produced by his company Hanoiminx J.S.C. The Hanoiminx Cube has 8 turning faces: 4 flat triangular faces and 4 slightly domed hexagonal faces. The first handmade copies appeared around 2015, and the mass-produced version went on sale in 2023. The mechanism is protected by Vietnamese patent no. 17386. We offer the version in black plastic with vinyl stickers.

How to solve the Hanoiminx

You can turn both the hexagons and the triangles. The movement is a bit like the Master Tetraminx or the Dayan Gem VIII, but the cuts are noticeably shallower, so the puzzle behaves differently from those models. People who have solved it describe the solution as intuitive rather than based on long algorithms, and rate the difficulty as medium. Experience with the FTO or other octahedral puzzles helps. If you get stuck, the box includes instructions with a solving method.

Turning and handling

The Hanoiminx has no magnets and no tension adjustment. Opinions on the turning vary. Some people praise its smooth, quiet turning straight out of the box, while others say it was stiff at first and only loosened up after lubing and a few solves. Make sure each face is properly aligned before the next move, because imprecise turns easily cause lockups. This is a puzzle for relaxed solving, not for setting fast times.

Hanoiminx or Void Hanoiminx?

There is also a Void version, also called the Free Hanoiminx. It has no small centers on the triangular faces, which makes it harder to work out the correct colour orientation. This page is for the standard version with centers, which, according to users, also feels slightly more solid when turning.

Who is it for?

For those who have already mastered the 3x3, Pyraminx or FTO and want something with unusual geometry. It is also a great choice for collectors of original designs. For a child's first puzzle, it is better to choose something simpler, as the Hanoiminx requires patience and finding the solution on your own.
