The KungFu CangFeng 4x4x4 is a budget 4x4 cube without magnets.
Reviews keep coming back to the same points: for its price range it turns fast and light, and it locks up fairly rarely. Out of the box, turning is smooth and fluid. To get the best results, though, you will usually need to spend a moment on tension adjustment.

How it solves

The CangFeng is clearly fast. Some users even find it too fast at first, especially with a looser setup. With reasonably accurate turning, lockups and catching are rare. Corner cutting is decent for a 4x4, and popping is usually not a problem. If it does fall apart in your hands, it is easy to put back together.

Feel is a matter of personal preference. Some describe it as smooth, others as slightly sandy or crispy, especially before the cube is broken in. A lot depends on the factory tension, which can vary from one unit to another. On loose settings the cube loses a bit of stability, which you can improve by tightening the screws slightly.

Design and adjustment

The construction is nothing out of the ordinary. The mechanism is very similar to the one KungFu uses in its 3x3 cubes. Tension is set with adjustment screws under the center caps. According to some users, the caps can fall out, so it is worth checking them every now and then. The cube has no magnets, and you can tailor its character to your liking with the right lube and tension setting.

Who is it for?

The CangFeng works well as a first 4x4: for someone who can already solve a 3x3 and wants to try a bigger cube, or for a parent looking for an affordable but solid 4x4 for their child. Speedcubers will find it useful as a backup or practice cube. If you expect magnetic stability and predictable behavior at high TPS, you should rather choose a newer magnetic 4x4.
