QiYi Warrior 4x4 is a budget 4x4 cube from the Warrior series, QiYi's line of simple, affordable models for everyday solving. The cube measures 59 mm, weighs about 109 g and comes in a stickerless bright version: no stickers, just coloured plastic in bright shades.

59 mm is a typical size for a 4x4. The cube is neither noticeably small nor oversized, so it's easy to switch to from a 3x3. A weight of about 109 g is standard for cubes of this size. How is a 4x4 different from a 3x3?

A 4x4 has no fixed centres, so you first need to solve them and then pair up the edges. Only then do you finish the cube just like a 3x3. This approach is called the reduction method. You'll also need to learn a few algorithms for parity, situations that don't occur on a 3x3. If you can already solve a 3x3, you'll usually pick up the 4x4 without much trouble.

The first few days with your cube

Budget 4x4 cubes often need some time to break in straight out of the box, and the inner layers can feel less smooth than the outer ones. After a few hundred turns and a small amount of lube, the cube usually turns noticeably lighter and more evenly. It also becomes easier to avoid lockups when turning the inner slices.

Who is it for?

The Warrior 4x4 is a sensible first 4x4 for anyone who can already solve a 3x3 and wants to try a bigger cube without spending much. It also makes a good gift for a child or a spare cube to carry in your backpack. If you train 4x4 for times and need strong magnets and extensive tension adjustment, you should rather choose a higher-end model, e.g. from the QiYi M Pro series.
