LanLan Snake 48-blocks

LanLan Snake 48-blocks is a snake puzzle in the style of the Rubik's Snake. It is made of 48 blocks shaped like triangular prisms, joined into a single chain. Each block rotates relative to its neighbour, so you can twist one snake into animals, objects, geometric figures or shapes of your own design. Unlike a 3x3 cube, a snake has no solved state. You don't have to return anything to a starting position or learn algorithms; what counts is your spatial imagination.

How a snake works

You turn the elements in quarter turns, and each joint has a few fixed positions. With such a simple principle, the number of possible shapes grows very quickly with the length of the snake. With 48 elements you can already build noticeably more complex 3D models than with a short snake, and you still have room to experiment with your own designs. Many ready-made patterns (animals, vehicles, balls) can be found in guides and videos, often with the number of blocks given.

24, 36, 48 or 60 blocks?

In our shop, the LanLan Snake comes in several lengths. Shorter versions are quicker to fold and easier to get the hang of at first. Longer ones give you more possibilities but take more patience to build. The 48-blocks version sits in the middle: it is clearly more advanced than the 24- and 36-block versions, yet less overwhelming than the 60. If you already have a shorter snake at home, 48 blocks is a sensible next step.

Who is it for?

For kids and adults who enjoy spatial puzzles and building without step-by-step instructions. A snake is also a great fidget toy and an interesting break from cubes for any cuber. It is not a speedcubing puzzle or a WCA event, so there's no talk of times or TPS here. It's all about playing with form.
