Lee Mirror fake 4x4

Lee Mirror fake 4x4 is a 4x4 Mirror-type puzzle handmade by Lee. It is based on a regular 4x4 cube with 3D-printed tiles of different thicknesses glued onto the pieces. Once scrambled, the cube loses its cubic shape and turns into a block with protruding, uneven pieces. You solve it by shape, not by colour: the black body has the same silver sticker on every face.

How it differs from the Mirror 3x3

Most cubers know the classic Mirror 3x3. The 4x4 version is a much harder challenge. You get all the problems familiar from a regular 4x4, i.e. edge pairing, building centres and parity. In the mirror cube the centres have different heights, so simply grouping them into blocks is not enough. You also need to know which centre belongs to which face and what sits opposite what. Parity also has to be recognised by shape, because the colours do not help at all.

How it turns

This is a collector's puzzle, not a speedcubing cube. It measures approx. 82 mm, so it is noticeably bigger than a typical 4x4 and may not sit comfortably in everyone's hands. Users say it turns fairly smoothly, roughly like a budget 4x4. However, catching does occur, and with aggressive turning and lockups the construction can feel fragile. It is best to turn calmly and align the layers carefully. The tiles are glued to the pieces, so you should not disassemble this cube the way you would a regular 4x4.

Who is it for?

For people who can solve a 4x4 and have already completed the Mirror 3x3. Collectors of shape mods and handmade puzzles will appreciate it too. Once solved, it looks great on a shelf. For your first cube or for learning the 4x4, choose a regular model instead, because without knowing the reduction method the Mirror 4x4 can quickly become discouraging.
