Lee X Cube II

Lee X Cube II is a collectible shape mod puzzle by Lee, a creator known for unusual modifications of classic cubes. When solved, it is a cube with sides of approx. 60 mm. After a few moves it no longer looks like a cube, because the layers extend beyond the outline and the shape changes. The model is black, so it looks more like a desk sculpture than an ordinary cube.

The X Cube series

X Cube II is the second of three puzzles in the series. We also offer Lee X Cube I and Lee X Cube III, all in black. The models differ in construction and cut layout, and therefore also in the shapes the puzzle takes when scrambled. If you are choosing one puzzle from the series, compare the photos of all three versions. It's the easiest way to see which geometry suits you best.

How to solve it

With a shape mod, you have to keep track not only of the colors but also of the geometry. The pieces are different sizes, so you first need to restore the cube shape and only then finish solving. Lee makes mods in short runs, often based on standard mechanisms with added pieces. Shape mods like these are not designed for speedcubing. What matters here is the interesting shape and the solving process itself, not TPS or corner cutting. That's why it's best to turn calmly and align the layers carefully before the next move, instead of forcing a turn.

Who is it for?

For cubers who can already solve classic cubes and are looking for something different from yet another fast 3x3. It's also a good choice for collectors of unusual mods and short runs. For a child's first cube, a regular magnetic model is a better choice. X Cube II makes the most sense once you have mastered the basics of solving.
