LingAo Magic 8p mini

LingAo Magic 8p mini is a smaller version of the classic Magic puzzle. It has eight flat tiles connected with strings, which you fold and flip until you get the correct arrangement. The mechanism is similar to a Jacob's ladder, except that the tiles work in two dimensions instead of one. When unfolded, the puzzle measures approx. 16 x 7.9 cm, is less than half a centimeter thick and weighs approx. 49 g. It fits easily in a pocket or a pencil case.

What is a Magic puzzle?

The Magic has no layers to turn, so it is something completely different from a 3x3 cube. The solution is a short sequence of folding and unfolding the tiles, which you can easily memorize after a few tries. Once you have mastered the sequence, what counts is smooth movement and keeping the tiles from jamming. That's why the Magic is often bought as a break from cubes or as a small brain teaser to play with in your spare time.

Magic in competitions

The Magic used to be an official WCA event. It appeared at the 2003 World Championship and was a recognized event from the founding of the WCA in 2004. At the end of 2012, the WCA removed it from the list of official events together with Master Magic. Since January 1, 2013, results in these events are no longer recognized. This puzzle is therefore not allowed in official competitions, but it still works well for practice and solving just for fun.
