MF8 Quantum Cube Air is a shape-shifting puzzle from MF8, a manufacturer known for unusual and often highly complex twisty puzzles. This model is also sold under its full name, Super Mixup Quantum Cube Air. It belongs to a series in which MF8 has already released several numbered versions. This page covers the first version (#1 / V1). The puzzle measures approx. 67 mm and weighs 174 g, so it is noticeably bigger and heavier than a typical 3x3 speedcube.

What is the Quantum Cube Air?

When solved, it looks like an ordinary cube, but once scrambled it changes shape, just like other shape mod puzzles. With puzzles like this, the intuition you have built on the 3x3 no longer works. Pieces that always return to their places on a classic cube can move into unusual positions here. That is why you first need to work out how the puzzle moves, and only then think about a solving method.

This is not a puzzle for timed solves or high TPS. Think of it as a collector's puzzle for relaxed solving, where figuring things out matters more than turning speed.

Which version?

There are currently at least four versions in the Quantum Cube Air series. They are similar in size but differ in construction, and therefore in how they are solved. If you already have the Quantum Cube Air #1, the later numbers are separate puzzles, not an improved version of the same model. This first version is a good starting point for exploring the series.

Who is it for?

For cubers who can already solve the 3x3 and other basic puzzles and are now looking for something less obvious. It is also a great addition to a collection of MF8 puzzles. We do not really recommend it as a child's first cube: without knowing the basics, it is easy to scramble but hard to get back into a cube shape.
