MF8 Quantum Cube Air V3

This is the third version of the Quantum series from MF8, a manufacturer known for unusual and challenging puzzles. From the outside, the MF8 Quantum Cube Air V3 looks like a 3x3 cube with a side length of approx. 67 mm, but it works in a completely different way. In this series, corners, edges and centers don't have fixed roles. While you solve it, pieces can take over each other's functions, and the cube quickly stops being a cube at all. We stock it in the limited Primary color edition.

What is the Quantum Cube all about?

On a regular 3x3, a corner always stays a corner and a center stays a center. On the Quantum Cube this rule doesn't apply, so your 3x3 experience will only help you up to a point. Outside Poland, the series is also sold as the Super Mixup Quantum Cube. The name refers to the Mixup Cube, where you can turn the middle layer by 45° and move a center into an edge position. After just a few moves, the puzzle loses its cube shape, which is why it belongs to the shape-shifting puzzles (shape mods). There is no ready-made method for solving it. You need to observe how the pieces behave and work out your own sequences for this mechanism.

V1, V2 or V3?

The Air line is the basic version of the series. The Chinese product name even says "basic version" outright. V3 came after V1 and V2. People who have solved it say you need to figure out a few extra dependencies and that it is noticeably harder than V1. On the other hand, it complements the earlier versions nicely. If you're just starting out with the Quantum series, it makes more sense to begin with V1. Reach for V3 once you've solved the first version and want something more challenging.

Who is it for?

For collectors and anyone who has already solved plenty of unusual puzzles and enjoys working out their own solving approach. This is not a speedcubing cube. TPS and fast turning don't matter here, understanding the mechanism does. We also don't recommend it as a child's first cube. A classic 3x3 is a better place to start, and a simpler shape mod is better for first attempts at shape-shifting puzzles. The Primary version is a limited edition, so it will also delight anyone collecting the whole Quantum series.
