This puzzle is shaped like a cube, but it solves differently from a regular cube. MF8 Window Grilles I cube is a face turning and corner turning puzzle. It has curved cuts, so when you scramble it, irregular patterns resembling window grilles appear on the faces. That's where the name "Window Grilles" comes from. We offer it in the Primary colour variant.

How it solves

Face and corner moves overlap. Because of this, pieces move in ways that are hard to predict if you only know the classic 3x3. People who have solved the MF8 Unicorn Cube notice that the solving method is similar. To build your own algorithms, a good grasp of commutators and conjugates will help.

According to user feedback, the mechanism turns well for a puzzle with so many independent pieces. Straight out of the box, however, it can be a bit tight and may catch when a layer isn't precisely aligned before the next move. Calmer turning and carefully lining up the layers help. This is a cube for figuring things out, not for setting times.

Grilles I, Crazy Grilles I or Grilles II?

• Grilles I is the basic version of the series and the easiest way to start your adventure with Grilles puzzles.
• Crazy Grilles I has round "0"-type centers on all six faces. They don't turn together with the outer layers, which adds another layer of difficulty.
• Grilles II is a separate model: a 3x3 shape mod with two fully turnable corner layers.

Who is it for?

For people who have already mastered classic cubes and want to try something beyond standard mechanisms. It's also a great fit for collectors of shape-shifting puzzles and shape mods. For a child's first cube, a regular 3x3 is a better choice, because without experience it's easy to get discouraged by the Grilles I.
