MoFangGe Twisty Skewb

MoFangGe Twisty Skewb

MoFangGe Twisty Skewb is a skewb with one face rotated by 90°. It's a small change, but it transforms how the puzzle looks. Once scrambled, it loses its cube shape and turns into an irregular form, which is why you'll also find it in our shape-shifting puzzles category. The design is credited to Yukang Wu, and it is produced by MoFangGe, a QiYi brand.

How it differs from a regular skewb

The moves work the same way as on a classic skewb: you turn half of the puzzle around a corner. If you already know a skewb method, you have a good starting point. The challenge is that the rotated face changes the geometry of the pieces. While solving, you need to keep track not only of the colors but also of the puzzle's shape, and the state of the puzzle is harder to read than on a regular skewb. If you've already mastered the skewb, this is a worthwhile new challenge.

Mechanism and adjustment

The puzzle has adjustment screws, so you can set the tension: looser for smoother turning or tighter if you want the pieces to shift less. The manufacturer is known to have used solutions that reduce popping and lockups. The Twisty Skewb is not a speedcubing puzzle in the strict sense. It's more of a shape mod for relaxed solving and for your collection than gear for high TPS.

Who is it for?

For those who know the classic skewb and want to try something different, as well as for collectors of shape-shifting puzzles. If you're just starting out, a regular skewb is a better choice, because it makes it easier to learn how the mechanism works. This puzzle is not permitted in official WCA competitions.

Available colors: black, white and stickerless bright.
