MoHuanShouSu ChuWen 2x2x2 is a non-magnetic 2x2 cube from 2017. It was released by MoHuanShouSu, a small brand affiliated with MoYu. The company entered the market quickly and stopped releasing new cubes just as quickly, so today the ChuWen is more of a curiosity from speedcubing history than a current model. The cube was designed by Zhang HaiXu, a former 4x4 world record holder. We have it in the black plastic version.

Mechanism and performance

The ChuWen uses several solutions intended to make turning smoother:

• Edge-corner positioning system. The positioning points have been moved to the corners, which reduces the lockups typical of older 2x2 mechanisms.
• Shorter center pieces. There is more space inside, which translates into better corner cutting.
• Full contact surfaces between pieces, designed to improve layer stability.

According to reviews, the ChuWen is fairly fast and solves well right out of the box. Many users get even more out of it after lubing and adjusting the tension. You adjust the tension with screws. The cube has no magnets, so it doesn't align the layers by itself and requires more precise turning than modern magnetic 2x2s. Some cubers used to modify it themselves into a magnetic version.

Important: do not twist the corners of a 2x2 cube, as you may break a piece.

Who is it for?

We recommend this model mainly to collectors and hobbyists. It will appeal to those who want a cube from a little-known brand in their collection, and to those who solve casually and enjoy a non-magnetic feel. The cube meets the requirements for official competitions. However, if you are looking for a new 2x2 cube for timed practice, a current magnetic model will be a better choice. It offers more stability and doesn't need to be modified.
