Monster Go Spelling Cube 4x4 is a mosaic set, not a single 4x4 cube. It includes 16 small 3x3 cubes, each 28 mm on a side. Arranged in a 4x4 square, they form one large surface where you can create letters, numbers, words or simple pictures. The set belongs to Monster Go, the GAN line designed for kids and for anyone just starting out with cubes.

How the cube mosaic works

Each of the 16 cubes has only two colors. By turning the layers of the individual cubes, you set up the right pattern of stickers on the top face. Four rows of four cubes give you a 12 x 12 grid, which means 144 "pixels". That's enough space for a clear letter, a number, a heart or a smiley face. With two colors instead of six, making a pattern is much easier than with classic mosaics built from standard colored cubes, but you still have to think about how to move a specific piece to the right spot.

For learning and fun

Kids can make their first letters and short words while learning how to turn a 3x3 cube. The moves are the same as on a regular cube, only the goal is different: instead of solving all the faces, you build a single pattern. More experienced cubers will probably see the set as a fun curiosity or as material for school lessons and clubs.

The cubes are small and non-magnetic, so they are not suitable for speedcubing. If you want to learn to solve against the clock, a full-size 3x3 cube is a better choice.

Color versions

The set comes in two color variants: Yellow (yellow and green) and Purple (purple and pink). They differ only in the colors of the cubes. The number of cubes and their size are the same in both versions.
