MoYu WeiPo WR 2x2

MoYu WeiPo WR 2x2 is the next generation of MoYu's 2x2 from the Wei series and the successor to the well-received WeiPo. This 2x2 cube has no magnets. It was released in 2019 with a new mechanism and a lighter build, and the stickerless bright version got a new colour scheme with better contrast, so it's easier to recognise pieces while you solve.

Mechanism inspired by the WeiLong

MoYu took the internals of this cube from the 3x3 cubes of the WeiLong series. This kind of design is rare among 2x2 cubes:

• Stabilising ridges on the centres. The hidden centres have an angled ridge. It fits into matching grooves in the pieces and holds the layers in place.
• Three-part pieces. The innermost part is a small base with a torpedo that prevents popping. The middle part is elongated and wide, and its deeply rounded sides improve corner cutting. The outer part is the flattest. Its shape resembles the middle part, but it is rotated perpendicular to it.

How it turns

Turning is very light right out of the box, so you can start solving without a long break-in period. The cube stays stable on both tighter and looser settings. At the time of its release, corner cutting was one of the WeiPo WR's strongest features. You change the tension with the adjustment screws, using the screwdriver included in the set.

WR, WR M or newer versions?

The same mechanism is also used in the WeiPo WR M, MoYu's first magnetic 2x2. The magnets give the layers a clearer stop and more control. Later came the WeiPo WRS with magnet and spring compression adjustment. The non-magnetic WR version turns more freely. It suits light turning, as well as anyone who wants a simple, proven 2x2 for learning and practice without paying extra for magnets.

Who is it for?

For anyone starting out with 2x2 who wants a better cube than an ordinary toy, and for cubers who prefer non-magnetic cubes. The cube is legal for official competitions.
