MoYu 3x3x3 Aolong Plus

MoYu 3x3x3 Aolong Plus is a cube from the AoLong series, one of the most important lines in MoYu's history. It measures 57 mm, has screw tension adjustment and a black body. This is a classic "old school" speedcubing 3x3 cube. It is bought mainly by collectors and by cubers who want to hold a piece of the sport's history in their hands.

How the AoLong legend began

The first AoLong was the third generation of the hugely popular WeiLong. MoYu brought in the mechanism concepts of the AoSu 4x4. The result was a cube that gave noticeably more control than the WeiLong while staying quite fast. The community praised it for its good corner cutting. The AoLong series is closely tied to the name Feliks Zemdegs. One of his solves, which would have been a world record, ended in a DNF because of a twisted corner on an AoLong. That is why MoYu released the V2 version, which reduced the risk of corner twists.

How it holds up today

The Aolong Plus does not compete with today's flagships. The newer models in this line, the Super AoLong and the AoLong V5, have magnets, Ball-Core and MagLev. This cube has none of these features, so there is no distinct "click" when aligning layers and no advanced adjustment system. You change the tension the classic way, with screws. If you want a cube for breaking records, choose a modern magnetic model. The Aolong Plus makes sense as a collector's piece or as a cube to solve for nostalgia.

Who is it for?

For collectors and cubers who remember the days before magnets and want a model associated with the Feliks era in their collection. The cube meets the requirements of official competitions. For a beginner or a child, however, a cheaper magnetic model is a better choice, as it makes learning easier.
