MoYu AoLong V5 3x3 M

AoLong is one of MoYu's best-known series, and the V5 brings it back with a new design. The MoYu AoLong V5 3x3 M is the base magnetic version of this generation. It has 48 magnets in the pieces, classic springs, a matte (frosted) surface without UV coating and a stickerless bright colour scheme. It doesn't have MagLev or Ball-Core, but the body, carbon fiber core and adjustment range are the same as in the more expensive variants.

Mechanism and adjustment

• 48 magnets in the corners and edges. They help the layers settle into place and give a noticeable "click" with every move.
• Springs instead of MagLev. A classic spring system usually gives calmer, more controllable turning than versions with repelling magnets.
• Carbon fiber core. According to the manufacturer, the carbon fiber core is stiffer than a regular plastic one and flexes less during fast turning.
• 8 levels of tension and 8 levels of compression, set independently, giving 64 combinations. You change the settings with the adjustment key included in the set.
• Anti-corner-twist design, intended to reduce corner twisting during fast solving, plus a Dragon Scale texture for better grip.

How it turns

There aren't many opinions about the M version itself yet, so we won't force a verdict. Reviewers of the Ball-Core version describe the V5 plastic as fairly hard to the touch, similar to the WeiLong WRM V10. The MagLev versions are known for being very fast, sometimes even hard to control. The M version, with springs and no magnets in the core, should be calmer. It aligns the layers less on its own, so a bit more depends on the accuracy of your turning. The matte plastic has medium grip and doesn't look shiny.

M, M UV or Ball-Core MagLev?

The M UV version has the same mechanism with 48 magnets and springs. The only difference is the glossy UV coating, which gives your fingers more grip. The 8M and 20M Ball-Core MagLev UV variants have 88 and 100 magnets respectively, MagLev instead of springs and a magnetic core. This makes them faster, they align the layers more strongly on their own, and they are heavier (approx. 71-72 g compared to 64 g for the M version).

Who is it for?

For someone buying their first proper 3x3 magnetic cube, and for cubers who want to try the AoLong V5 platform without paying extra for MagLev and Ball-Core. The cube is ready to solve straight out of the box. The adjustment will come in handy later, once you know whether you prefer a looser or a tighter cube.
