MoYu Aolong V5 3x3 20M Ball Core MagLev UV

This is the top-of-the-range version in the Aolong V5 family. The MoYu Aolong V5 3x3 20M Ball Core MagLev UV has 100 magnets in total, 20 of which sit in the Ball-Core. MagLev replaces the springs, the core is made of carbon fiber and the surface has a UV coating. The cube comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

Out of the box, the Aolong V5 is fast, fairly tactile and gives a clear "click" as the layers line up. The plastic feels harder, and some users compare it to the WeiLong V10. After setup, meaning lubing and choosing your settings, the cube becomes more stable, and you can tune it to feel smoother or more tactile. Reviewers also note that it quickly "eats" lube and gets faster afterwards. If you prefer more control, go easy on the lube. Compared with the WeiLong V10, it is sometimes described as slightly lighter and a bit less stable, with magnets that feel weaker but smoother. Technology and adjustment

The Aolong V5 comes in four versions. The basic Magnetic version has 48 magnets, springs and a matte surface, while the Magnetic UV has the same mechanism with a UV coating. The 8M Ball Core MagLev UV version adds MagLev and a Ball-Core with 8 magnets (88 magnets in total). The 20M has the same mechanism but 20 magnets in the core, so it aligns the layers more firmly and feels more "solid". Users say the 8M version is very fast even on tight settings. If you want MagLev but stability matters to you, the 20M is the safer choice.

Who is it for?

For speedcubers looking for a flagship 3x3 cube with MagLev and Ball-Core who enjoy fine-tuning their own setup. Out of the box the cube is fast, so if you prefer a more controllable feel, it may take a few attempts with the settings and lube. As a first cube for a child, the basic Aolong V5 Magnetic is more than enough: it has the same carbon fiber core and dual adjustment, but no MagLev or Ball-Core.
