MoYu 4x4x4 AoSu WR

MoYu AoSu WR 4x4 is a non-magnetic 4x4x4 cube that replaced the AoSu GTS2 in 2019. Its key feature is its size. At 59 mm, it is smaller than a typical 4x4, so it is easier to hold and control during fast turning. It weighs approx. 110 g. It is available in black and stickerless bright versions.

What has changed compared to the AoSu GTS2

The mechanism is largely the same as in its predecessor, but MoYu made a few improvements. The inner part of the corner shells has slightly smaller roundings, which may somewhat limit reverse corner cutting. The edges have no tracks on the front and back surfaces, but this change does not affect turning. The manufacturer also improved the positioning system, that is, the way the core holds the centre pieces, to reduce lockups. Grooves added to the contact surfaces reduce friction between the pieces.

The layer proportions have changed as well. The outer layers are wider relative to the inner ones, so the cube sits well in your fingers despite its smaller size.

How it solves

The AoSu WR turns very lightly, and its corner cutting is on the same level as the GTS2. The cube is stable, although slightly less so than its predecessor because of the wider outer layers. It has no magnets, so the layers do not align on their own. Avoiding overshooting depends on how accurate your turning is. Tension is set with adjustment screws using the screwdriver included in the set.

Who is it for?

The AoSu WR is a good fit if you prefer a 4x4 cube without magnets or want to magnetise it yourself. The pieces have slots for magnets, and the factory-magnetised version of this model is the AoSu WR M. Since the WR was released, MoYu has launched newer AoSu models, including magnetic ones. If you want a strong 4x4 cube for timed practice, a magnetic version is usually the better choice. The WR is a good option if you like light, lighter turning without magnets. The cube is legal for official competitions.
