MoYu AoSu V7 4x4 Single-Track Magnetic: the base version of the new AoSu

The seventh generation of the AoSu hit the market in 2024. The most visible change is the size. The MoYu AoSu V7 4x4 Single-Track Magnetic measures 58 mm per edge, so it is smaller than its predecessor and fits better in your hands. This will be especially appreciated by cubers used to 3x3. Single-Track is the base variant of this magnetic 4x4 cube: 96 magnets, no Ball-Core, and matte (frosted) plastic without a UV coating.

What MoYu changed in the mechanism

The mechanism has been redesigned from scratch. The outer layers are wider to make the cube more stable. Popping protection has been improved, and the pieces have a new shape that MoYu calls Dragon Scale. These changes are meant to give smoother turning, fewer lockups and more stable behaviour during long move sequences.

How it turns

The cube is fast and clearly "clicks" into place right out of the box. The outer layers align well, so the 3x3 stage feels like solving a decent 3x3. Some units arrive fairly dry, so lubing usually improves the feel noticeably. Users point out that the magnets between the inner layers are stronger than on the outside. As a result, slices and wide moves need more force and catching can occur. Some cubers like this, because the centre doesn't shift during reduction. Others find it gets in the way of fast wide turns. Corner cutting is decent, although some reviews say it could be wider.

Single-Track, Double-Track or Triple-Track?

All versions of the AoSu V7 share the same size and piece design. They differ in magnetisation. Single-Track has 96 magnets acting between neighbouring pieces (piece-to-piece) and no magnets in the core. Double-Track (112 magnets) and Triple-Track (160 magnets) have a Ball-Core, i.e. magnets that pull the corners towards the core. This makes turning more guided and easier to control. These versions are slightly heavier and have a UV coating. The Single-Track is also available in a UV version, which differs only in its glossy surface.

Who is it for?

This 4x4 cube suits you if you are upgrading from your first budget 4x4 and want a modern magnetic mechanism without paying extra for a Ball-Core. It also works well for cubers who solve 4x4 casually or treat it as a secondary event. Some advanced competitors notice its limitations at very high speeds and choose the Double- or Triple-Track version when chasing times.
