This is a set of 64 small magnetic 1x1 cubes from MoYu. It isn't a puzzle in the classic sense, because the individual pieces have no turning layers. Instead, they connect to each other with magnets and are made for building. MoYu Magnetic 1x1 (64 pcs) is the largest set in this series. With all the pieces you can build a full 4x4x4 cube, but you can just as easily create flat patterns, letters or any 3D structures you like.

How the magnetic 1x1 cubes work

The pieces attract each other on every side. You don't have to check which face you're attaching or think about magnet polarity, so building is easy even if you're picking up the set for the very first time. Each connection snaps together with a clear, tactile click. The magnets hold your build in place, yet the pieces come apart without tugging, so rebuilding is quick.

Who is it for?

For a cuber, it's above all a desk toy. You can keep your hands busy during a break from practice or build a 4x4x4 cube to display on the shelf next to your puzzles. The set isn't suitable for speedsolving or learning algorithms, and that's not what it's for.

It also makes a great gift for someone who doesn't solve cubes at all. You don't need to know any methods to play with it, and free-form building helps develop spatial imagination. Parents should keep in mind, however, that the set contains small parts with magnets.

9, 27 or 64 pieces?

MoYu has released these pieces in three sets: 9 pieces (a 2x2x2 cube), 27 pieces (3x3x3) and 64 pieces (4x4x4). The smaller sets are cheaper and easier to carry around. The 64 pcs version gives you the most options for larger builds and is the only one that lets you assemble a full 4x4x4 cube.
