MoYu Maple Cube

MoYu Maple Cube is the basic, non-magnetic version of the Ivy Cube from MoYu. This puzzle is also known as the Maple Leaf Cube, a cube shaped after the maple leaf. Each face has one large leaf-shaped piece, and the whole puzzle consists of only 10 pieces. This version is stickerless, has a matte surface, measures approx. 56 mm and weighs approx. 62 g.

How the Ivy Cube works

The Ivy Cube turns along its diagonals, similar to the Skewb. With each move, a corner turns together with the three leaves next to it. There are only a few pieces, so you can solve it intuitively, without learning long algorithms. A few tries are usually enough to understand how the pieces move around. That is why the Maple Cube works well as a first puzzle other than the 3x3 cube, including for kids. The Ivy Cube is not a WCA event. Still, some cubers solve it against the clock for fun or as a break from standard cubes.

This version has no magnets, so the layers do not snap into place on their own. You have to finish each move by hand. For casual solving this usually doesn't matter at all. For fast turning, the magnetic version is more predictable.

Maple Cube, Magnetic or Ball-Core?

MoYu makes the Maple Cube in several versions:

• Maple Cube (this version): no magnets, matte finish. The simplest version for anyone who just wants to try the Ivy Cube or add it to their collection.
• Maple Cube Magnetic: 24 magnets, colored pieces (tiles) instead of stickers and a dual-adjustment system with tension and compression adjustment. Moves clearly "click" into place.
• Maple Cube Magnetic Ball-Core UV: has additional magnets between the corners and the core that stabilize the puzzle, plus a glossy UV coating with strong grip.

If you plan to solve the Ivy Cube against the clock, the magnetic version is the better choice. For learning, as a gift or for your collection, the basic Maple Cube is all you need.
