MoYu Maple Magnetic Cube

MoYu Maple Magnetic Cube is the magnetic version of MoYu's Ivy Cube. This shape is also known as the Maple Leaf Cube. The mechanism turns around the corners, similar to a Skewb, and the face centers are shaped like leaves. MoYu has brought features known from speedcubes to this puzzle: magnets, the Dual-Adjustment system and a body that can be taken apart. This version has magnets in the pieces, but no Ball-Core and no UV coating.

How it turns

24 factory-installed magnets give each move a distinct "click" and help the layers settle into place after a turn. The non-magnetic version turns slower and less precisely. In user reviews, the cube comes across as snappy. Opinions on magnet strength vary, from moderate to fairly strong. The centers have a textured surface that improves grip. One thing people who solve Ivy for time appreciate: this model is noticeably easier to take apart than a typical Ivy Cube, which makes lubing and adjusting easier.

Adjustment

This kind of adjustment is rare on an Ivy Cube. Most models of this type offer no way to tune the puzzle to your preferences.

Magnetic, Ball-Core or UV?

The MoYu Maple comes in several versions: non-magnetic, Magnetic, Ball-Core and Ball-Core UV. The Ball-Core version has additional magnets between the corners and the core, giving stronger auto-alignment and more stable turning. UV adds a glossy, high-grip coating. The Magnetic version is the simplest of the magnetic ones. For casual solving and learning Ivy, it is all you need.

Who is it for?

The Ivy Cube is easy to learn, so it works well as a first puzzle beyond the classic cube, including for kids. If you take Ivy more seriously and solve it for time (it is not a WCA event), the magnets and adjustment really help you solve faster.
