A compact 12x12 cube from MoYu: it measures 75 mm, weighs approx. 275 g and is noticeably smaller and lighter than the first generation. It features rounded corners that reduce lockups, an integrated core, screw adjustment and a matte stickerless surface. Non-magnetic version.
For a long time, a 12x12 cube meant a big, heavy puzzle that tired your hands after a few dozen minutes. MoYu Meilong 12x12 V2 is clearly different in this respect: it measures 75 mm, which makes it smaller than many 11x11 cubes, and weighs approx. 275 g. The first generation of the Meilong 12x12 was about 93 mm and much heavier, so you can really feel the difference in your hands. This is the non-magnetic, stickerless version in the bright colour scheme.
With 12 layers, the most important thing is that the cube turns predictably and doesn't keep running into lockups. In the V2, MoYu rounded the corners of the pieces, which improves tolerance when layers aren't perfectly aligned and reduces catching. Wider outer layers give your fingers more room to grip, which makes turning easier with such small pieces. The matte, anti-slip surface stays in your hands without feeling sticky.
To be honest, the non-magnetic version doesn't "click" the layers into place. Alignment depends on your fingers, so turning is slower and less precise than with the magnetic version. For a cube you solve for the process itself rather than against the clock, this doesn't have to be a drawback.
The Meilong 12x12 V2 is also available in a magnetic version with Ball-Core. That version has 184 magnets, a triple centre structure and is slightly heavier (approx. 307-315 g). It gives clearer layer alignment and more stability. The non-magnetic version is lighter and simpler, and it is perfectly sufficient for relaxed solving.
For cubers who have already tackled 7x7 or 9x9 cubes and want to take on a 12x12 without hauling around a heavy, oversized puzzle. It also works well as a collector's cube. If you plan to solve regularly against the clock, take a look at the magnetic version.
